Museum

Due to the lack of funds, the basement of the Parish Center was left unfinished. Since I can remember, I have been collecting traditional nativities from all over the world. I enticed a group of parishioners to give their time and talent to build a little museum in the aforementioned basement. We opened it to the public during "Festa 2009". It was a great success. It incorporates more than one hundred nativities and has, as a focal point, a large Bethlehem Town made by one of our parishioners, Alcino Pereira. It has been the delight of our children, parishioners and many visitors. It even made the front cover of the Christmas issue of our Diocesan Magazine, the Catholic Mirror.

This museum was closed by the town due to the lack of handicap accessibility. People from local communities got together and had a luncheon fundraiser at the Grémio Lusitano Portuguese Club in hopes to raise enough funds. It was a success. A hydraulic chairlift was installed in the Parish Center to allow the museum to reopen for "FESTA 2011". There was also a showing on Three Kings day. The Museum will open on special Holy Days as well.
